Update 2025: I have switched over from Joomla to WordPress so I can more easily maintain the site. It’s funny to me to look back and see what I was thinking about Class B’s what amounts to about a decade ago. Boy have times changed in the Van World. So many really cool options now. What has not changed is the price issue – it’s gone up! Way up! Just yesterday I was looking at an incredibly versatile Luxury Class B based out of a company in Las Vegas. It had everything I could imagine wanting. And of course the starting prices is roughly $180K! Yikes. While I love the Versatility and sometimes Garagability of Class B they still do not make financial sense to me.

Right now with just cursory look at a 2018 Jayco 29′ Greyhawk in near mint condition at a dealer with slides and an interior that offers actual space the price is $70K. Now I do not want a 29′ Class C it’s just way to big for my needs. But the point is you can get a lot of rig for about a $100K less. And even at $5 a Gallon and 1,000 miles a month it’s $830 a month for fuel which is about 3x what it would cost to operate your Class B you get so much more. And once you are parked – wow you can actually relax without constantly bumping into your partner! And you do not have the hassle of converting the bed back and forth from sofa to bed.

Plus and this is huge for me you get a DRY BATH! So much more comfort. In my opinion the best bang for the buck is a Converted Van (For Luxury Travel and Interstate Road Trips) pulling a small Trailer like an Escape. The real advantage becomes you can leave your “house” in the campground/RV park and go adventuring. But I am probably wrong! Who wouldn’t want a luxury Class B? But is it really worth $180K? I guess it just depends on your income.

Anyways Here is my Decade Old Thinking

Everytime I get excited to review and write about the new Sprinter/Dodge/European Transit Box style RV’s my enthusiasm is immediately tempered by the Price.  I wonder why one would spend so much money (Sure there is a mileage advantage) on what amounts to a relatively small RV.  Yes I know they are a bit easier to drive, and easier to park, and I suppose there is the National Park Crowd who appreciates how they fit in any campground. BUT… but… the Price?  You can get a lot of luxury and purchase a whole lot of gas for a much more comfortable RV.  And yes I want one of these, but I will never own one because for me they just don’t and will never make sense.  Having completed my rant now… and being very short on time.  I’ve decided to just research and link out to what I consider some of the better places where you can investigate these vehicles on your own.

These Old Links are still working and kind of fun to read – especially if you are looking for a used rig.
