The Ford 460 when properly cared for (I use Mobil 1 Filters and Synthetic Motor Oil) will go 250,000 miles, but the same can not be said for the transmission. If you want to know more about the E40D and why I had it rebuilt you can read more about it. Any Airstream B Van on the Ford 1 Ton Van Chassis with 80,000 or more is going to need to be rebuilt. The E40D was improved a lot later in the 1990's and heavy duty rebuild kits are available that improve the longevity of the Transmission. Be sure to get the highest Capacity Transmission Cooler your intended travel climate will accomodate. Airstream made a very limited number of these Class B Motorhomes so they are hard to find, and usually will need to have the roof cap painted (The Gelcoat finish is nearly always worn away).
